Fulton’s Tree Committee is collaborating with Friends of Fulton Parks to plant trees for Earth Week, on Saturday. Young, native deciduous trees will be supplied by the city’s tree nursery.
Despite a slow start in the early Saturday (April 16) morning hours, turnout picked up throughout the day for the second ever Parent University hosted by Fulton City School District and Fulton Community School. The doors opened at 9 a.m. at Fulton Junior High School to welcome parents, families and students from the Fulton community to the informational Parent University aimed at providing numerous resources to benefit the overall educational experience of all students. The free event provided ten seminars involving many different members of the Fulton City School District including the Board of Education and touched on subjects of many varieties including parenting strategies, academic assistance and educational requirements. In its second year, Parent University was proud to introduce Chick Moorman, a renowned educator as the keynote speaker to present on his program, The 5 Commitments: Parenting with a Purpose.
Every April, we celebrate our planet with “Earth Day,” a special commemoration established in 1970 as a way to highlight the importance of protecting the environment. Today, Earth Day is celebrated across the globe on April 22 and in many places, isn’t limited to just one day, as throughout the entire month a spotlight is placed on what we can do to protect the planet.
The Oswego County Legislature’s Economic Development and Planning Committee presents Martin Weiss with a certificate of appreciation for his 40 years of service. Weis is a senior associate planner with the Oswego County Community Development, Tourism and Planning Department.
Accomplished opera singers Kyle Pfortmiller, a baritone, and soprano Laura Pfortmiller, whose careers have brought each to Oswego in the past, will perform duets and arias from grand opera composers at 7:30 p.m. April 27, in SUNY Oswego’s Sheldon Hall ballroom.
Aren’t there safe and effective ways to control those little buggers without resorting to deadly chemicals? If I sound like one of those tree-huggers, well that would be me, but I would also like to be able to hug my flea and tick free pets without exposing myself (let alone what it does to my pets) to a bunch of chemicals that I have no idea whether they are safe.
