With its mission of protecting all children in Oswego County the Child Advocacy Center of Oswego County is constantly monitoring the driving factors behind physical and sexual abuse and premature, preventable deaths of children. Over the past year the staff of the Child Advocacy Center has noticed an alarming trend that is victimizing children even before they are born – opioid dependence.
An Oswego State student learned firsthand last November the advantages of having a community hospital and its emergency department close to campus. Oswego State junior Alex Peck attended his morning classes and then grabbed lunch. Soon he was experiencing stomach pains that just kept getting worse.
The Upstate Energy Jobs Coalition, which includes business, education, labor, and economic development organizations, today (April 8) expressed strong support for Governor Andrew Cuomo’s proposed Clean Energy Standard following the release of a cost analysis of the plan issued by the state’s Department of Public Service. The CES mandates that 50 percent of all electricity consumed in New York by 2030 come from clean and renewable energy sources.
Many retired folks head to Florida to avoid the snow without realizing there are other options some of which are exciting and no more expensive. John and I discovered that long-staying at various hotels in Southeast Asia is more interesting. Before deciding on a second home away in sunny climes, consider the expenses: initial outlay to purchase, routine bills such as water, electricity, etc., maintenance costs or association fees, taxes and other miscellaneous expenses. The benefit of long-stays is that there is none of that.
Students are named as honor roll students when they achieve an overall average of 84.50 or above. If a student achieves an 89.50 or above, they are placed on the High Honor Roll. To attain Principal’s List status, a student’s overall average must be 94.50 or above.
Following up its New York State Championship, the team, based out of Skaneateles, and comprised of least one player from each Section III Girls Hockey School, including Whitney Daino of Oswego and Christina Ravesi from Fulton, proved to be one of the best in the country.
State Senator Patty Ritchie recognized 22 local “Women of Distinction” for their contributions to our region at a special ceremony held Thursday at the historic Roswell P. Flower Memorial Library in Watertown. “This year’s honorees represent such a wide variety of talents and accomplishments, everyone from educators and community volunteers to individuals in public service and entrepreneurs,” said Senator Ritchie.
April is National Sexual Assault Awareness Month (SAAM). This year’s campaign focuses on ways that individuals, communities, and the private sector can help prevent sexual violence. This year, SAAM is celebrating its 15th anniversary with the theme “Prevention is Possible.”
