Hawthorne Graduates from Union College
Nathaniel Hawthorne, of Fulton, graduated from Union College as part of the college’s 222nd Commencement ceremony. Hawthorne received a Bachelor of Science degree while majoring in Chemistry summa cum laude.

Investigation at the scene revealed Carrie F. Dalton, 36, from 408 S. Fourth St., Fulton, allegedly concealed several unpaid items in a shopping cart under shopping bags containing paid items.
Sage Bartlett of Altmar-Parish-Williamstown Central School District placed fourth in the small schools division at the New York State Track & Field Championships and ninth overall in all schools.
The Oswego City School District and the Oswego Classroom Teachers Association agreed on a new one-year contract late Tuesday. The deal includes a wage freeze, Superintendent Dr. Dean Goewey announced at the school board meeting Tuesday night. “Never in the history of our district have we had all four collective bargaining agreements ratified before the expiration of those contracts,” he said. “Never before in the history of our district have all four agreements been settled with salary freezes for all members.”
Maybe it’s not first-and-goal for the drive to restore sports in the Oswego City School District, but the effort received a huge boost Tuesday from Senator Patty Ritchie. She announced a $150,000 special grant to help rescue the sports programs that were slashed by the district in the budget process. David Gryczka, Director of P.E. and Athletics, updated the school board Tuesday night regarding the fundraising under way to help restore the sports programs.
We live out in the country in a wooded area where there is a lot of wildlife, everything from deer to chipmunks to turtles to all kinds of birds. We are thinking about getting a dog but wondering if that is such a good idea for either the dog or the wildlife. What do you think?

Oswego Harborfest is pleased to announce the 2016 Children’s Parade, sponsored by Oswego Health. The parade invites children of all ages and their families to attend the annual event, which begins July 29 at 1:30 p.m. in Breitbeck Park, and travels along Lake Street to West Fifth and concludes in the Novelis Family Park at Franklin Square.
