DMV Will Replace Peeling License Plates for Free

Oswego County Clerk Michael C. Backus is reminding drivers that they can have old peeling license plates replaced for free at one of the three Motor Vehicles offices in Oswego County. Backus said that some NYS license plates which were issued a few years ago are peeling and deteriorating due to a manufacturing defect.

Maple Syrup in New York Breaks Record; Seniors Can Qualify for Fresh, Local Produce

This year’s maple syrup production season broke a 70-year-old state record. Maple producers recorded collecting more than 700,000 gallons of maple syrup, which was an 18% increase over the harvest in 2015. Warmer-than-normal temperatures extended the maple syrup season and the number of taps also increased. In fact, producers recorded the most taps since 1947.

Troopers Investigate Accidental Drowning in Granby

On Friday, July 8, at approximately 6:15 p.m., State Police responded to 93 Rathburn Road in the town of Granby for a missing 5 year-old child. When troopers arrived, they began searching the area around the house, garage and pool areas. The child was located at the bottom of the in-ground pool behind the home.

Oswego Council Eyes Improvements for City Streets and Property

At its meeting Monday night, the Common Council will consider several resolutions to make improvements to various city properties, streets and more. The community development director recommended Housing Visions Consultants as the qualified developer for the development of the Flexo Wire site. They’re proposing to construct a five-story mixed use building containing about 40 one-bedroom quality rental units, 11 two-bedroom quality rental units and about 10,000 square feet of retail – commercial space on the north end of the site facing Lake Street.
