Under Governor Andrew Cuomo’s leadership, the State of New York created the Empire State Poverty Reduction Initiative of which the city of Oswego was identified and selected as one of ten upstate communities to receive $500,000 in funding to create public and private partnership in working together to design and implement coordinated solutions to increase social mobility.
Ralph P. Borek, 97, of Fulton, died Sunday August 21, 2016, in St. Luke Health Services, Oswego.
All Oswego County government offices, including the solid waste transfer stations and recycling drop-off centers, will be closed Monday, Sept. 5, for Labor Day.

St. Luke Health Services’ Diane Garcia is a recipient of a 2016 LeadingAge New York Long Term Care Employee of Distinction Award. Garcia, who has been with St. Luke for 26 years, is the assistant director of activities at the healthcare residence.
The Merit awards are $3,000 over four years. For non-New York state students, the total award can increase to as much as $39,000 in combination with a Destination Oswego scholarship.
