The scholarships are $6,000 over four years. For non-New York state students, the total award can increase to as much as $42,000 in combination with a Destination Oswego scholarship.
The Nerds got their ROWvenge on Saturday afternoon. ROWvenge of The Nerds rowed to first place in the annual Oswego Dragon Boat Festival competition. Money raised from the festival provides access to youth, families and seniors in the Oswego County community to YMCA programs.
Patrick Dewine, executive director of United Way of Greater Oswego County has announced that the Oswego Firefighters’ Association Local 126 is currently collecting school supplies through Aug. 23 in support of the Stuff-A-Bus campaign at its main headquarters, 35 East Cayuga St. in Oswego.
The Peoples’ Produce Project is a volunteer project that was launched last year by Oswego County Department of Social Services staff members. Building on a successful first season, the initiative continues to help local residents supplement their pantries with fresh local produce.
The Oswego County Health Department will hold its next rabies clinic from 6 to 8 p.m. Sept. 7, at the Oswego County Highway Garage, 24 Dill Pickle Alley, Parish. Oswego County Public Health Director Jiancheng Huang said the rabies virus is widespread across Oswego County this summer, and people should make sure their pets are properly vaccinated against rabies.
The 2016 Summer Reading Program at the Oswego Public Library drew in almost 400 participants of various ages and reading levels. Readers kept track of either books or minutes read over the course of the six-week program.
Oswego initiatives earning awards are proposals by Isabelle Bichindaritz to support developing online courses in biomedical informatics and by Casey Raymond for a new method of creating online content for science and mathematics programs. Oswego’s two submissions were among the 35 SUNY approved out of 78 proposals.
The New York State Police in Pulaski is attempting to identify the woman in the security photo above regarding a stolen credit card investigation. The stolen card was used on August 9, at several locations in the village of Central Square.
