On another warm and sunny October day in Central New York, the Big-Block Modifieds and the 358-Modifieds took to the “Clay Palace” for time trails. The first six starters for the Bud Light 300 and the Riccelli-Northern Salute the Troops 150 was set by group qualify.
Bill Canole, a spokesman for the CNY Veterans Recognition Commission, spoke to the Fulton Noon Rotary Club about the upcoming Veterans’ Day Dinner. It will be held Nov. 9 from 6 to 9:30 p.m. in the ballroom at the Marriott Syracuse Downtown. The annual dinner serves as a major fundraiser for both the Honor Flight and Clear Path for Veterans programs.
The Hannibal Historical Society will host Hannibal History Day on October 15 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Community Center on Oswego Street in the village. Artifacts showcasing business through the years in Hannibal will be on display, including the history of the former Cook’s Manufacturing Jewelers building on the corner of Cayuga Street in the village square.
On October 29, SUNY Oswego’s Alpha Phi Omega will host its second “Slime Run/Walk” to benefit Make-A-Wish Central New York and help raise funds for wishes. In the spirit of Nickelodeon’s “Slime Time Live,” this second annual, family-friendly event features a competitive 5K run and a non-competitive 5K walk through SUNY Oswego’s scenic campus.
As our 2016 season wraps up, Fulton Amateur Radio Club would like to thank everyone who participated in our Field Day 2016 event. We managed to come together, get set up, get on the air and make contacts! The band conditions were challenging, but all in all, we had a good time. We want to express our deepest thanks to the Fort Ontario at Oswego and director Paul Lear for hosting this event at this wonderful location.
Canale’s Restaurant will provide the next Salvation Army Guest Chef dinner on October 18. They will serve lasagna, tossed salad with their house Italian dressing, and bread and butter. Desserts and beverages will be provided by members of the advisory board. he dinner will be at the Salvation Army Worship and Service Center, 73 W. Second St.
As someone who has lived in the North Country her entire life, I know there’s nothing like the beauty and sense of community that exists in our region of the state. And while there are positives, we face a number of obstacles too. As co-chair of the Legislative Commission on Rural Resources, I’m working to address those challenges and identify ways to make this great part of our state even better.

Raising Awareness. Individuals at ARISE in Oswego used its creativity to show their support for Domestic Violence Awareness Month. As purple is the symbolic color for domestic violence awareness ARISE created a window display filled with purple flags to pay tribute to individual that are survivors of domestic violence.
In September, last year, the ASPCA filed a petition with the USDA asking that agency to strengthen its regulations concerning animal breeding facilities, what we all know of as “puppy mills.” While no one wants the practice of puppy milling to continue, in the meantime there are hundreds of them around the country, including right here in Central and Western New York. Current standards of care are so weak that breeders can legally keep dogs in tiny, stacked cages with wire floors that may injure their paws and legs.
