Directed by senior theater major Kelci Schlierf, the SUNY Oswego student honors production “The Pillowman” opens Nov. 30 and runs through Dec. 4 in the Tyler Hall lab theatre. The drama tells the tale of Katurian (seated at center, played by Sydney Lattenhauer), a fiction writer interrogated about the gruesome content of his short stories and their similarities to a number of bizarre incidents occurring in his town. ‘The Pillowman’ Explores Gender Roles, Violence, Power

SUNY Oswego’s student honors theater production “The Pillowman” will explore violence as a metaphor for power during its run in the Tyler Hall lab theater. Student director Kelci Schlierf’s adaptation of the 2003 play will feature a preview performance at 7:30 p.m. on Nov. 29 and will have 7:30 p.m. curtains from Nov. 30 through Dec. 3.

Workers are busy putting the finishing touches on what will become the permanent home to the Safe Haven Museum and Education Center at Fort Ontario Park. The Fort Ontario Emergency Refugee Shelter in Oswego was the only site in the United States where holocaust survivors were provided a “safe haven” during World War II. Ruth Gruber, an American journalist who stumbled into one of the great rescue stories of the Holocaust when the U.S. government appointed her to escort nearly 1,000 Jews across U-boat infested waters to the shores of the United States, died Nov. 17 at her home in Manhattan. NY State Public Service Commission Approves Sale of FitzPatrick Nuclear Plant

Today (Nov. 17), in a 4-0 vote, the NY State Public Service Commission approved the sale of the FitzPatrick nuclear plant. In August, Entergy accepted an offer from Exelon Corp. to buy the facility for $110 million. Prior to this agreement, Entergy was preparing to shut down the FitzPatrick plant in January 2017. The Nuclear Regulatory Commission and the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission still need to approve the sale.
