On Nov. 18, nearly 600 people are expected to gather for the National Adoption Day Celebration at the OnCenter in Syracuse. This annual event draws people from throughout Central New York and is expected to finalize 55 adoptions. Family court judges from Oswego, Onondaga, Cayuga, Jefferson, Oneida and Herkimer will preside over the adoptions of residents from their respective counties.
At a special program the day before Veterans’ Day, Leighton Elementary welcomed several veterans to a patriotic program that involved the entire school. Several of the veterans received special honors from their children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren who are students at FLS.

State Police arrested Anthony Deroose, of Richland, for Cruelty to an Animal, a class “A” misdemeanor. Troopers were called to his residence after a neighbor called 911 to report Deroose was striking his dog while it was chained up to a tree in his backyard, police said today (Nov. 12).
The No. 7/8 Oswego State men’s ice hockey team on Friday night (Nov. 11) defeated the host Red Dragons of Cortland 4-1 at Alumni Arena. Nationally-ranked Oswego’s victory keeps its perfect start to the campaign alive at 5-0-0 overall and 3-0-0 in SUNYAC action while Cortland drops to 2-3-0, 1-2-0.

Imagine 150 different flavors of soda. Decisions, decisions, decisions. I like the fact that the old-time soda fountains are making a comeback. When I was in Eagle River, Wisconsin, I had a great lunch and root beer float at Soda Pops. I passed on the ice cream, but most people did not. There is a wide choice of ice cream with 70 topping to choose from.

This year marked the 98th anniversary of the first observance of Armistice Day. The best pay a veteran can receive, LTjg George Hoffman, the MC, pointed out, “is a thank you.”
