Academic excellence was in the spotlight at Emerson J. Dillon Middle School during the first quarter, as hundreds of students earned exceptional grade point averages.
Amboy 4-H Environmental Education Center will resume its Woodland Snowshoe Wanders programs in the new year, on Sundays, January 8, 15, 22, and 29 at 2 p.m.
The holiday-inspired event featured more than 80 tuba players, ages 7-70, who performed in concert to usher in the Christmas season.
As Oswego County’s bicentennial year winds to a close, Legislator Shawn Doyle recapped some of the events of the past 12 months. It was 200 years ago, this spring that Oswego County was formed. At the start of 2016, Kevin Gardner, chair of the legislature, set up a committee regarding the county’s bicentennial year observance. “For the longest time, it wasn’t really a big priority,” Doyle, committee chair, said. “We were facing some tough choices last January. Our nuclear plants were in jeopardy, one ready to close. This was the last thing on our minds, how we’d get through a bicentennial.”
Lydia C. (Cole) Parsons, a life resident of Fulton, died on Thursday December 15, 2016, at her “winter home” in Palmetto, Florida, peacefully and with her family by her side.
After graduating a large senior class in 2016, the Phoenix Central School District’s marching band entered the season in rebuilding mode, and the end result exceeded all expectations. The Firebirds, in the final show at the Carrier Dome in late October, nailed the performance with its best show of the season.
On Dec. 15 the Oswego County Legislature unanimously adopted a 2017 county budget with a zero percent tax increase. County Legislature Chairman Kevin Gardner (District 13, New Haven) praised the efforts of legislators on both sides of the aisle to come to consensus on the spending plan.
