Begin the New Year with a First Day Hike at Old Fort Ontario

On New Year’s Day, Jan. 1, at 10 a.m., Fort Ontario Superintendent Paul Lear will conduct a free 3-kilometer First Day Hike around the 262-year-old Fort Ontario Military Reservation National Register District. In observance of the centennial of the entry of the United States into World War I, the theme of the moderately-paced hike will be the fort’s service as a hospital for wounded and sick soldiers from 1917 to 1919.

State Police are investigating a car-pedestrian hit-and-run accident that occurred on State Route 104 on Sunday. The accident occurred in the town of Oswego on State Route 104 near the intersection of State Route 104A. The 19-year-old victim was transported to Oswego Hospital with serious injuries, police reported.

It’s time for 7

It is time for the Oswego County Legislature to universally adopt a 7 p.m. meeting time. Serving in our county legislature for almost a year I will be the first to acknowledge there are areas in which we are moving forward, but it is also my elected job to make the public aware of an area that has fallen desperately behind. These daytime meetings prevent a large majority of citizens from attending and engaging in county government.

As part of a quarterly awards program, Phoenix high school teachers nominated students who demonstrated positive character attributes and leadership qualities since the beginning of the school year.
