Assistant City Attorney Tom Reynolds, on behalf of Councilor John Gosek, requested discussion regarding a proposed local law regarding the restriction of the use of herbicides that contain glyphosate on city owned property. The purpose of the law is to protect the public health, Reynolds explained. However, the committee tabled the plan in order to further discuss it.
“Digging It With Bonnie – Gardening Tips from a Master Gardener” classes will take place in the Garden Room at Bishop’s Commons, located at 4 Burkle St. The first class is scheduled for July 11 beginning at 6 p.m. A second class will take place on July 25 at 6 p.m.
Frederick L. Batchelor, 69, a resident of Oswego, left us on Saturday, July 1, 2017, to be with the love of his life, his wife of 41 years, Linda “Lynn” Batchelor.
The H. Lee White Maritime Museum’s Derrick Boat No 8 was placed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2015. Thanks to a grant from the William G. Pomeroy Foundation, a permanent roadside marker was install by museum volunteers to help the public learn about this historic vessel and its designation.
The Oswego County Legislature continues to advocate for the region’s nuclear power industry and at its June meeting urged defeat of measures in the state Assembly and Senate that would repeal the Clean Energy Standard. The state Legislature has adjourned for the season without acting on the bills. However, members of the Oswego County Legislature are concerned the issue could re-surface when the state Legislature re-convenes.

The Oswego City Band presents “Celebrate American Music” at Breitbeck Park on July 5 at 7:30 p.m. The ensemble will be performing a wide variety of styles appropriate for all ages and musical tastes.
The Dave Melton Family Singers will visit the Williamstown Church of Christ in Williamstown on July 19 for a 6:30 p.m. concert. The family group recently released a new CD titled “God is Good to Me.”
The tall ships Niña and Pinta, replicas of Columbus’ ships, will visit Oswego for the H. Lee White Maritime Museum’s Festival of Ships July 21 through July 23. The ships will be docked at the West First Street Pier adjacent to the Maritime Museum and will be open for tours from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. July 21, 22 and 23.
