Congratulations to Kevin King (Men’s Division), Joe Berson (Men’s Senior Division) and Lynn Young (Women’s Division) who outshot a competitive field of golfers to become the 2017 Stone Creek Club Champions. The two-day event included a field of 35 golfers across three divisions of gross and net scoring.
Oswego Speedway competitors in the Novelis Supermodified, Pathfinder Bank Small Block Super, International Supermodified Association and NASCAR Whelen Modified divisions will spend the 61st Annual Budweiser International Classic Weekend supporting one of the most legendary names in motorsports history to raise awareness for colorectal cancer.
You can accomplish great thing when you work together. That was the message Oswego Mayor Billy Barlow shared Tuesday (August 29). The Greater Oswego-Fulton Chamber of Commerce facilitated a “Meet the Mayor Roundtable” at the new Home2 Suites by Hilton in Oswego. More than two dozen city officials, business owners, representatives from various community service organizations and others attended. There’s a huge opportunity for inter-municipal cooperation between Oswego and Fulton as well as the county, the mayor said.
With three days of testing in the books for the 61st running of Budweiser International Classic Weekend at Oswego Speedway, it’s not a surprise to anyone that the man on top of the charts so far is seven-time track champion Otto Sitterly, who posted a 16.371 second lap in the John Nicotra owned No. 51 to be driven this weekend by Joey Moriarty on Wednesday evening.
A free concert featuring Shafaat Khan, classical musician of India, originally scheduled for Thursday, Sept. 7, at SUNY Oswego, has been canceled. The performance formerly was to be an unofficial kickoff on campus for the “Year of India,” sponsored by the college’s Institute for Global Engagement.
The Oswego City School District has completed the majority of the work involved in moving its central offices to Frederick Leighton Elementary School and district officials say it’s “business as usual” following the effort. The offices of Curriculum, Personnel, Special Education and Superintendent Dr. Dean Goewey are now operational within Leighton’s east wing. The Business Office is expected to complete its move in the coming weeks.
Colgate University political science professor and scholar Dr. Nina M. Moore, whose research focuses on racial inequality, public policy and governance processes, will speak at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 14, in Marano Campus Center auditorium as part of SUNY Oswego’s I Am Oz Diversity Speakers Series. Author of “The Political Roots of Racial Tracking in American Criminal Justice,” Moore will appear as the first 2017-18 speaker for I Am Oz.
