According to the U.S Fire Administration, there are more home fires on Thanksgiving Day than any other day of the year. “Most fires on Thanksgiving occur between noon and 4 p.m. – the peak cooking hours,” Oswego Fire Chief Randy Griffin said. “Many of those fires can be easily avoided by staying alert and remaining in the kitchen while cooking.”

Nearly 100 students from Oswego Middle School joined members of the Oswego City Police Department at Lighthouse Lanes recently for an afternoon of bowling and pizza while building trust and finding common ground.
Preparations are under way for the annual Holiday Bazaar at the Bowen’s Corners United Methodist Church to be held Dec. 1 and 2. The event will feature crafts, a bake sale and candy sale, a sale of gently used holiday items, and a luncheon. Bazaar hours are 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. each day.
Oswego County legislator representing the 22nd District, James Karasek organized a non-perishable food drive to benefit local agencies in dispersing food for those in need around the holidays. The Fulton TOPS store, 909 W. First St., is now home to a donation bin for customers to place purchased canned goods and non-perishable food items through the end of December. All collected food will be evenly distributed among Catholic Charities of Oswego County and Oswego County Opportunities’ Nutrition Services to be given to local families in need.
Financial donations and volunteer help are needed for this year’s Community Thanksgiving Dinner to be held on Thursday, November 23 from noon until 2:00 p.m. at First United Church of Fulton at 33 South Third Street in Fulton. The free sit down dinner is open to everyone, and features a complete Thanksgiving Dinner and an opportunity for good food and fellowship.
On Saturday, The Oswego Tier II Travel team sponsored by the Oswego Sub Shop lost to League foe New Hartford 1-6. On Sunday morning, the Sub Shop Peewees traveled to Auburn, handing the hosts a 5-4 defeat.
