Mayor Barlow Announces Changes in Operation, Cost Savings at Oswego DPW

Oswego Mayor Billy Barlow announced today (Dec. 19) the creation of a new schedule at the city of Oswego Department of Public Works, a move that turns the department to a twenty-four hour, seven days a week operation for the months of December through March. Mayor Barlow has now implemented three different rotating shifts Monday through Sunday, a change the mayor says will surely decrease the amount of overtime within the department while also expediting the snow removal process and help with snow plowing efficiency.

U.S. Rep. John Katko (NY-24) today (Dec. 19), highlighted significant wins for Central New York in the final tax reform legislation scheduled for a vote in the House and Senate today. Katko, who supported the Tax Cut and Jobs Act in the House, continued to advocate for Central New York’s interests as the House and Senate worked together to conference on the bill.

I was in a grocery store the other day and a man came in with his dog on a leash. I love dogs, but I thought that was a little unusual, so I watched them. The dog was wearing a vest that said “Therapy animal – Please don’t pet me.” I know not to interfere with service dogs, so I just observed from a distance. To be honest, it was horrifying to watch.

$55,000 Grant Supports Student Emergency Fund at Cayuga Community College

Students can apply for grants to help cover unexpected expenses, which will allow them to return to their academics as quickly as possible, with the goal of keeping more students on track toward graduation.

For families all across New York State, nothing says Christmas quite like the smell of pine, that deep green color and the way a tree brightens up our homes and businesses this time of year. It’s become an annual tradition here in New York to get the family together for a trip to the local Christmas tree farm to pick out that perfect evergreen to take home and decorate. Not only are Christmas trees a big part of the holiday season, they’re a big part of New York’s agriculture industry, too.
