The Oswego State men’s basketball team defeated St. Lawrence, 100-63, on Friday night, earning Coach Jason Leone his 200th victory of his career. With the win, the Lakers improve to 5-4 this season, while the Saints fall to 2-6. Oswego buried 19 3-pointers against the Saints, breaking the old program record for the most 3-pointers in a game.
A decade-long partnership between the Fulton Sunrise Rotary Club and the Phoenix Central School District continued this year with the annual dictionary giveaway. Rotarians visited with third graders to discuss the service organization and teach students how to get the most out of the dictionaries they received.
Dozens of families gathered for an evening of creativity and crafts, as students made ornaments, reindeer, snowflakes, trees and other holiday-inspired projects.
Christmas is a time of heartfelt giving and the SUNY Oswego community has continued this tradition by holding its 30th annual SUNY Oswego Toy Drive to support local families. College volunteers have worked with the Oswego County Department of Social Services for the past three decades to help provide Christmas gifts to low-income families.
The Underground Railroad Freedom Center is the place to open up your mind. The center celebrates the heroes who created the Underground Railroad; a secret network slaves used to escape to freedom, but the center also makes people aware of the 27 million people worldwide who are still trying to get their freedom. The Freedom Center has been on my bucket list from the day it opened in 2004 and finally, John and I got to visit during our recent visit to Cincinnati. The center was much more than I had expected.
The Oswego County Health Department is reminding residents that the use of electronic cigarettes is now banned indoors everywhere that smoking tobacco products are prohibited in New York. A law extending the ban was signed by Governor Andrew Cuomo in October and took effect Nov. 21.
Robert “Mike” Sullivan, 66, of Oswego, passed away on Friday December 15, 2017, at the Manor at Seneca Hill.
David L. Crowe Sr., 75, of Fulton, passed away Thursday December 14, 2017, after a long illness.
