OFD Offers Holiday Safety Tips
Each year, fire departments respond to an average of 210 structure fires involving Christmas trees. Faulty Christmas lights, overheated wiring, or nearby open flames such as candles can easily ignite a dry Christmas tree causing a fast-moving fire in the home. Although Christmas tree fires are not common, when they do occur, they are more likely to be serious.

Legislators Approve 2018 County Budget
After a brief discussion and a handful of amendments, the Oswego County Legislature adopted the 2018 budget Thursday night. The generic tax rate comes out to be $7.70 per thousand, the same as it was for 2017 and 2016.

Boeheim Foundation Supports OCO SAF House
Oswego County Opportunities recently received a gift of $5,000 from the Jim and Juli Boeheim Foundation to benefit its SAF House. Part of OCO’s Services to Aid Families program, the SAF House provides a temporary haven for victims of domestic and sexual violence who are in crisis and need temporary safe housing.

Employees at Eastern Shore Associates Insurance, headquartered in Fulton, donated a Christmas tree-full of toys and clothes for the Fulton Salvation Army’s Angel Tag holiday drive.
