Oswego County Recognizes Hospice Month

The Oswego County Legislature’s Health Committee designated November as Hospice Month at the full meeting of the Legislature. Oswego County Hospice has provided medical, social, and spiritual support to patients and their family members in their homes for nearly 30 years.

The girls were joined by Pulaski Troops 10164, 10809, and 10939 and Sandy Creek Troops 10068 and 10798. Together the girls prepared 200 Blizzard Bags. The Blizzard Bag program provides clients with an emergency supply of food in the event that they are unable to receive their regular home delivered meal due to inclement weather conditions.

In anticipation of another snowy winter season, members of Oswego County Opportunities’ Nutrition Services are preparing to make sure seniors in its Home Delivered Meals program don’t miss a meal. Each year, with the help of caring businesses, organizations and community members, OCO’s Nutrition Services prepares and distributes hundreds of “Blizzard Bags” to home delivered clients throughout Oswego County.

Legislation Seeks to Protect Patients From High Air Ambulance Costs

In an emergency where minutes are critical, medical professionals sometimes determine that patients need to be airlifted to a hospital rather than transported by traditional ambulance. This is particularly true in rural areas, where emergency rooms can be hundreds of miles away. During these occasions, decisions need to be made quickly and the last thing EMT personnel and the patient are thinking about is how much the air transportation is going to cost and how will the cost be paid. Unfortunately, situations have arisen where patients who have utilized an air ambulance get the unwelcome surprise of receiving a huge bill (often exceeding $50,000) for the service.

Fulton Fire Department Honors Two Fallen Firefighters

Just over 100 years after their line of duty deaths, Fulton Fire Chief David Eiffe honored two of Fulton’s fallen firefighters, Floyd L. Adel and Leon J. Hammond. Today, Eiffe strives to remember all four of Fulton’s former firefighters whose names are on the NYS Fallen Firefighters Memorial Wall in Albany that lost their lives in service at some point in the department’s 115 years of service. Fulton Fire Department lost firefighters Adel and Hammond almost exactly one year apart, a rough year in department history, Chief Eiffe said. As both line of duty death anniversaries approached, Chief Eiffe and the Fulton Fire Department organized a remembrance ceremony to be held in their honor.
