After a thaw that took us from single digits up into the 60s in some areas, the current forecast across all of Western and Central New York is calling for freezing rain, sleet, heavy snow and plummeting temperatures starting tonight (Jan. 12). So, how can drivers prepare themselves and their vehicles to combat the elements?
Paula Hayden resigned from her position as a board member in December 2017. Since then, the remaining six board members have grappled with how to move forward in handling the vacant seat. They were split in deciding between leaving the seat vacant and appointing a replacement. At Tuesday’s (Jan 9) regular meeting, the six remaining members continued to debate the situation. Ultimately, the board settled at a decision to solicit letters of interest from anyone interested that also fits the necessary criteria. The board will act on an appointment at the next board meeting on Tuesday, Jan 23.
For today (Jan. 12), they are cancelling all after-school and evening activities. For tomorrow (Jan. 13) they are cancelling all activities.
The Children’s Room at the Oswego Public library offers free story hour, crafts and snacks for children. Story hours take place on Wednesdays at 10:30 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. and Fridays at 10:30 a.m. Come explore the library! It is a great place to be in the winter.

Bruce and Nancy Radloff will screen the Buster Keaton masterpiece “The General” at 7 p.m. Jan. 26, at the Church of the Resurrection in Oswego. Nancy Radloff will accompany the film on piano. The event, the church’s second annual Silent Movie Night, will be open to the public and donations are welcome.

Dr. Kristin Poppo, provost at Alfred State, has announced the dean’s list of academically impressive students for fall 2017. To be listed, students must have completed at least 12 credit hours for the semester and earned a 3.5 grade point average (GPA) out of a possible 4.0.
