The New York State Department Of Labor Marks Workers’ Memorial Day With Planned Monument Honoring Fallen State Employees

The New York State Department of Labor (NYSDOL) today marked Workers’ Memorial Day by unveiling plans for a new, permanent memorial that will pay tribute to the State employees who passed away, including line of duty deaths, while serving New York State. The memorial site, which will feature a plaque, will be located near the reflecting pool in front of the NYSDOL office on the Harriman State Office Campus in Albany. The names of the victims can be viewed on this online memorial webpage. The memorial serves as a permanent reminder of the importance of the NYSDOL Public Employee Safety and Health Bureau’s (PESH) mission to provide occupational safety and health protection to all public sector employees.

“A life lost on the job is one too many,” said New York State Department of Labor Commissioner Roberta Reardon. “We must never forget our colleagues who lost their lives while serving the people of New York. NYS Office Of Mental Health Announces $33 Million Investment To Combat Street Homelessness Through Safe Options Support Teams

The NYS Office of Mental Health (OMH) today announced awards totaling $33 million over five years to create seven new Safe Options Support (SOS) Teams that will provide intensive outreach, engagement and care coordination services to individuals living with mental illness who are homeless and unsheltered, often living on the streets.  S.O.S. teams are comprised of licensed clinicians, care managers, and peer specialists who partner with local government, community providers, hospitals, law enforcement, and others to identify and work with high-risk individuals.
