Oswego County Under A Flood Warning

The National Weather Service has issued a Flood Warning for small streams in Oswego County until 11:45 p.m. Thursday.

The county’s gotten several heavy rains during the day, perhaps as much as 2.5 inches of rain across the northern tier of towns in the county, focusing on the Sandy Creek-Pulaski area.

Storms moving in during the evening may drop another inch of rain on the area.

The weather service believe the rain may fill streams in Sandy Creek, Orwell, Boylston and nearby areas beyond their banks while other streams will run at high levels.  Pools of water may form on local roads and farmland as well.

The warning means that flooding is either happening or very likely.  Flash flooding is not expected.

The weather service advises drivers not to drive through areas where water covers the roadway as it is impossible to gauge the depth of the water and because water can sometimes wash away the road below it.

If you see areas of flooding, you can report them to 911 or the National Weather Service.  Also, post a note in the comments below.
