Tobacco Free Network Announces Cleanup Dates

The Tobacco Free Network of CNY has announced the dates of four park/property spring clean-ups across Oswego, Cayuga and Onondaga counties.

The dates and locations are as follows:

• April 14 Bullhead Point, Fulton – 10 a.m. – noon
• April 20 SUNY Upstate Medical University Cleanup – 9 – 11 a.m.
• April 21 Palermo Methodist Church Cleanup w/ Palermo Boy Scout Troop #760 – noon – 1 p.m.
• April 21 village of Phoenix – 10 a.m. – noon

Note that the above times are subject to change as the cleanup may take either more or less time as needed.

Cigarettes contain more than 7,000 chemicals, such as arsenic and formaldehyde.

Littered cigarette butts leach toxic chemicals into the environment and can contaminate water.

The toxic exposure can poison fish, as well as animals who eat cigarette butts, and above all children who are at risk of ingestion.

The plastic fibers in cigarettes are non-biodegradable, meaning they won’t organically break down from living organisms.

All members of the public are welcome to come to any of the above mentioned dates to help with cleanup.
