OSWEGO – William J. Johnson, Sr., 80, of Baldwinsville, NY passed away on Saturday at home. He was born in Oswego, NY where he was raised and educated, attending Oswego High School. William proudly enlisted in the U.S. Navy stationed aboard the USS Annapolis and later the USS Wright CC-2. After serving his country, he worked for Columbia Mills in Minetto, NY until it’s closing. In 1974, he went to work for Crouse Hinds as a Machinist, enjoying over 30 years of employment, retiring in 2005. William was a Life Member of the VFW Post # 153 in Baldwinsville. In his younger years, he liked spending time outdoors, especially hunting and fishing. William also was an avid Bingo player. He is predeceased by his beloved wife of 30 years, Carolyn (Potter) Johnson and his sister, Myrtle Haines.
Surviving to cherish his memory are his two sons, William J. Johnson, Jr. of Oswego, NY and Stephan “Scotty” Johnson of Granby, NY, three daughters, Lisa (Ted Pittsley) Godfrey of Hannibal, NY, Veronica (David) Turner of Oswego, NY and Brandi (Kirk) Warren of Anchorage, AK, his caretaker and companion for the last 12 years, Fe O. Whittenberg, 13 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren.
Calling hours will be held on Thursday, October 2, 2025 from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm at the Maurer Funeral Home Moyers Corners, 3541 State Rt 31, Baldwinsville with funeral services to follow at 7:00 pm with military honors.
