Gail Miller Knox peacefully went home to heaven in the early morning of July 5th, following a two-year battle with pancreatic cancer.
She was bathed by candlelight and music, surrounded by her family and faithful beagle, Bagel, at home in Fulton, NY. A young seventy-year old spirit, she remains an adored grandmother, mother, wife and aunt.
She is survived by her husband, the Rev. Jeffrey Knox; son, Andrew Knox, his spouse Doug Reid, their children, Jackson and Caroline; daughter, Amy Knox, her son Lennon; sister Mimi Miller, her spouse Robert and daughter, Marcie Jo.
Gail and Jeff moved to Fulton in 1974, to serve at All Saint’s Episcopal Church, where they raised Andrew and Amy. A math facilitator for over twenty years, she taught students to enjoy math at Lanigan Elementary School. Gail was a member of the Delta Kappa Gamma Society International, a professional honorary society of Women Educators. Lanigan School bestowed the Golden Apple Award upon her for excellence in teaching.
Her life revolved around education, church and, most importantly, her friends and family. She co-founded Story Hour at the Fulton Public Library with long-time friend Judy Rusho. She also helped create a ten-year tradition of ecumenical vacation Bible school for the City of Fulton.
As a member of the Episcopal Church of the Resurrection in Oswego, she was a Lay Eucharistic Minister, sang in the choir, taught church school and served on the altar guild. An ardent musician, she enjoyed singing in the Oswego Festival Chorus and church choirs.
She loved traveling, especially to Elder Hostel workshops, learning and visiting National Parks among other hot spot destinations. Passionate about gardening and birding she made her home a haven for creatures great and small.
Probably her greatest life joy was being Grandma to Jackson, Caroline, and Lennon.
A memorial service will be held at 2 PM, Saturday, July 9th, at the Episcopal Church of the Resurrection in Oswego with a reception following.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made in her name to CROP Walk International, either at the service or online at: www.churchworldservice.org. The arrangements are in the care of the Sugar Funeral Home, Inc., 224 W. 2nd St. S. Fulton.

Jeff, our hearts are with you. Gail is one of this world’s great people and we will miss her.
Jeffrey and family, please know my thoughts and prayers are with you and yours. I am babysitting in CT., so I will be unable to attend Gail’s service on Saturday. Jeff, Andrew,Doug, Amy and children- We were so saddened to hear of Gail’s passing. She was a remarkable woman- kind, patient, thoughtful, learned, compassionate, helpful, intelligent and above all loving. Her family was her pride and joy and she also accepted the world at large as her extended family- sharing her talents and love with all she encountered. The world is definitely a better place because of her. At Lanigan, she made the halls a happy place with her eternal smile and good nature. She made everyone feel special and every child was treated as her own. She was respected and dearly loved. We can only imagine the pain you all must be feeling and may it comfort you to know that others are praying for you and with you during this difficult time. I was saddened to hear of Gail’s passing and am praying for your comfort and peace. I only saw today that she had gone home. She was always so pleasant and welcoming to me and mine, and I am most grateful for that. What a lovely lady.
