The Oswego AmeriCorps Program has been awarded funding for the 2010-2011 program year and is now accepting applications for positions that will start September 1. AmeriCorps is a national service program that addresses needs in local communities. AmeriCorps members in Oswego County will serve youth by mentoring, providing physical education activities and providing nutrition education.
Current openings are for 900-hour positions. Members in these positions would serve from six to twelve months and receive a living allowance totaling $6,399. After completing the hour commitment and other requirements, the member would receive an education award of $2,675 that can be used for tuition or the repayment of student loans at qualifying institutions.

Applicants must be at least 17 years old and have a high school diploma/equivalent or be in the process of obtaining either. There is no upper age limit. Individual sites may request additional education or work experience.
Applications are currently being accepted for openings at Altmar Elementary School, APW Middle School, Catholic Charities of Oswego County, Fairgrieve Elementary School, Fulton Family YMCA, Hannibal High School, Leighton Elementary School, Mexico Elementary School, New Haven Elementary School, Oswego YMCA Advantage After School Program, Palermo Elementary School, and Parish Elementary School. Other sites will become available.
