Award winners at the 2008 Art Association of Oswego Annual Members’ Exhibition were announced Saturday evening, July 19, at the opening reception.

Judging this year was done by popular vote.  Printmaker George O’Connell won Best of Show, the top award, with his jazz-inspired linoleum cut entitled You Must Remember This.

Tying for first place were Mary Jane Romano for her striking paper mache doll, Man Maid, and Cayetano Valenzuela for his dramatic mixed media composition, Across the Mare Tenebrosum.

Taking second place was Melissa Valenzuela for her intimate photographic portrait, Chris at the Window. Third Place belonged to Tim Ames for his expansive acrylic painting Cattle Drive at Yosemite.  Four Honorable Mentions were also given.

They were awarded to Al Crary for Rose and Thorn, an exquisite pen and ink rendering and also for his other entry Tenement Cascade, a rhythmic photograph of descending stairways.

Honorable Mentions also went to Earleen DeForest for her circular tribute to Georgia O’Keefe, a photograph called Georgia on My Mind: Just Leaves/Autumn Colors I, and to Cayetano Valenzuela for his moody blue mixed media Nights that Seeth In 4/4 Time.
