Two Schroeppel teens are on the fast track to court after leading police on a car chase. Police say the chase involved many of the roads in the area, including a snowmobile trail. The teens jumped from the moving car, police allege, but didn’t get far.
Local child abuse agencies in Onondaga and Oswego counties have each reported that instances of child abuse are on the rise. Research and history shows that when families and heads of households struggle economically, instances of child abuse and domestic violence increase.
This year’s legislative session has certainly had its share of frustrations, especially in regard to the state budget. With the vast majority of the budget completed, the end is in sight and I am looking forward to closing the process down.
The Shirts ‘n Skirts Square Dance Club honored recently-retired Treasurer Janet Lockwood for 38 years of service at its ice cream night held on July 16.
Once again, the Hannibal Dollars for Scholars annual Ducks over the Dam race was a success. The duck sponsored by Carroll Grant of Fair Haven won the race, earning a $1,000 prize for Ms. Grant.

Oswego County children and their families have enjoyed the beautiful lakeshore setting at Camp Hollis since 1946. Now, thanks to an Oswego Eagle Scout, they have 15 brand new picnic tables upon which to enjoy their outdoor meals.
“Food-borne illnesses increase during the summer months,†said Dr. Dennis Norfleet, Oswego County Public Health Director. “Given the right circumstances, harmful bacteria can quickly multiply on food to large numbers. When this happens, someone eating the food can get sick.â€
The Oswego County Legislature designated July 26 as Americans with Disabilities Awareness Day to promote education about advocacy, resources and services available to county residents.
Recently, one of the groups from the LIFE program at Oswego Industries, Inc. visited Howe Caverns. This is the third year in a row the program has made the trip to see this local, natural wonder.
