Emotions Run High As Neighborhood Battles Against House ‘Unfit for Occupancy’

An entire first ward neighborhood took a stand at Tuesday’s (Sept 18) regular meeting of the Fulton Common Council. One by one, neighbors of West Second Street South in Fulton addressed their pressing concerns with one troublesome house in their area. They detailed the drastic loss of quality of life in their neighborhood, all alleged to stem from one property: an owner-occupied multi-family unit that has been without water and power for months.

Residents Weigh In at Fulton’s Fifth Ward Neighborhood Watch Meeting

Following several cries for help in restoring neighborhoods and ensuring security for homeowners, Fulton’s fifth ward has taken action by forming a neighborhood watch. After bringing to light homeowner concerns at recent common council meetings including suspicious activity in neighborhoods, suspected drug use, and negligent properties, fifth ward councilor Dennis Merlino set up a meeting to form a neighborhood watch program.

Car Chase, Crash Results in Volney House Fire

Six people have been transported to area hospitals following a car chase that resulted in a house fire, according to Oswego County 911 dispatch. A car chase beginning in the city of Fulton was called in at approximately 10:05 p.m. on Thursday, Sept 13. Some time later, 911 dispatch was alerted that the car had crashed and caught fire.

Deputies Determining Relationship Between Murder Suspect and Victims

UPDATE: The Oswego County Sheriff’s Office has identified the second victim of an assault/homicide case in West Monroe on September 10. The second victim of the assault is 59-year-old Michael Shane of 451 County Route 11, West Monroe. Oswego County Undersheriff Eugene Sullivan said Matthew R. LeBoeuf, 33, charged with mudering Robert Diffin, 42, and leaving a second victim in critical condition did know the victims. Deputies are investigating to determine the capacity of their relationship.

Fulton School District Celebrates Attendance Awareness Month

Curbing chronic absenteeism is a top priority among officials within the Fulton City School District. So much so, district officials were presented with a proclamation by Fulton Mayor Ronald Woodward Sr. and the Fulton Common Council declaring September 2018 as Attendance Awareness Month and the free School Attendance Kickoff Celebration will be held on Sunday, September 16.

FCSD is Back to Business for 2018-2019

The 2018-2019 school year is well underway for the Fulton City School District. According to Superintendent of Schools Brian Pulvino, instruction began in classrooms within minutes on the first day of school last week. Districtwide, just more than 3300 students attended first days throughout the first week of school from grades pre-kindergarten through twelfth, a lower number than opening day last year.
