2016 In Review: January – New Year, New Oswego Mayor
On a snowy cold and blustery New Year’s Day, William J. Barlow Jr. was sworn in as Oswego’s new mayor. “Having the honor of being the mayor of this city is the opportunity of a lifetime. I am humbled, thankful and grateful to the residents for this opportunity,” Barlow said in his inaugural speech Friday (Jan. 1). “To the residents of the city who placed their trust in me, thank you and I promise to work passionately and enthusiastically every day and always make the right decisions for the right reasons.”

When you’re an old and chubby guy hauling zillions of dollars worth of toys and goodies on your sleigh in the dark of night with only eight tiny reindeer for protection – it’s safe to say you could use some more security. And, if you cover the entire world in one night, you need someone that can keep up with you. That’s where The US Air Force comes in. On Christmas Eve, New York Air National Guardsmen and Royal Canadian Air Force personnel from the Eastern Air Defense Sector will play a key role as the North American Aerospace Defense Command tracks Santa Claus and his reindeer.

Pet of the Week – Heidi
Heidi came to us as a “young mother,” a sad situation that plays out too many times here in Oswego County. Her babies all found wonderful homes. But Heidi is still in need of a home of her own. She is a sweet girl, friendly and playful, and used to other cats, dogs and kids.
Troopers to Participate in ‘Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over’ Crackdown
The New York State Police announced today (Dec. 21) that they will participate in the national enforcement initiative to crack down on impaired driving this holiday season. The New York State Police will participate in the national “Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over” campaign, from now through January 1, 2017.
