Mayor Barlow Shares His Vision For The City

Mayor Billy Barlow shared a recap of his first 40 days in office and his vision for the rest of his term with a large crowd of area business leaders on Tuesday afternoon. “Forty days in office and I’d say we’ve started with some momentum,” Barlow said. “We’re getting things done. We’re fielding constituent phone calls more than ever.”

Tom Ciappa was the only speaker at the public hearing regard residency of city workers. The taxpayers are investing in these (employees) and should get something from them, he said.

Oswego Council Repeals Residency Law

At its meeting Monday night, the Common Council approved Local Law No. 1 of the Year 2016 – a local law repealing Section C2-01 of the Charter of the City of Oswego, with respect to city officers and employees. City employees will no longer be bound to live within the city as a condition of their employment. The vote was 6-1 with Council President Shawn Walker casting the lone nay vote.

Residency Public Hearing Set Tonight in Oswego

The proposed charter modification would add a Section I, which authorizes the mayor to waive the residency requirements for an officer or employee when the strict adherence to the residency requirements will result in the loss of an officer or employee or the inability to fill a position of employment by the most qualified candidate regardless of residency or domicile.

Fire and Ice Festival Warms Up Port City

On Saturday, the Port City celebrated what the area is best known for – Winter. The only thing missing was the snow This year marked the 11th annual Warm Up Oswego Fire and Ice Festival. Temperatures lingered near 40 Saturday; the windchill made it feel even colder. However, the hundreds of people who flocked to Elim Grace Church and all around the downtown Oswego didn’t seem to mind.
