The average temperature was 1.4 degrees below average. Precipitation for the month came in 0.28-inch higher than average. And snowfall was also below average; just 0.1-inch, but maybe a hint of what’s to come.
We know Luka had to have been someone’s beloved kitty at some point, maybe a Russian Blue. He certainly has the looks. He came to us already neutered, with impeccable manners.
The Oswego County Health Department reported today (Nov. 6) that a skunk in the town of Hastings has tested positive for the rabies virus. Jiancheng Huang, Oswego County Public Health Director, said the rabies virus remains active throughout the year.
William Palange retired from the Oswego City School District in 2010, completing a career spanning nearly 35 years as a music educator. Palange was inducted in the New York State Field Band Conference Hall of Fame this past Sunday (Nov. 1) at the NYSFBC Championships. The Marching Buccaneers placed fourth in their division.
The investigation revealed that Michael J. Lopresti, 27, from Phillipsburg, NJ, was operating a 1994 Ford northbound on Interstate 81 when, for unknown reasons, the vehicle veered off the roadway and struck a tree. Lopresti along with his passenger, Cecilia M. Phillips, 23, from Washington, NJ, were pronounced deceased at the scene.
Efforts to have Gary Thibodeau’s conviction for kidnapping Heidi Allen overturned have hit a snag. Judge Daniel King has denied Thibodeau’s defense team’s request for more testimony.

Mentor-Scholar is a collaborative effort between the Oswego City School District, Fulton City School District, Red Creek Central School District, CiTi, and SUNY Oswego that provides local middle and high school students with the academic and social support of college mentors throughout the academic year.
The Oswego City School District held a public hearing on Nov. 3 regarding the tentative PILOT agreement with Nine Mile Point. Joe Shields, of Ferrara and Fiorenza Law Firm, briefly explained the proposed pact to the board. Only a handful of people were in the audience. The proposal is for July 1, 2015, to June 30, 2020.
