The Oswego County Health Department is saddened to confirm that the individual who was hospitalized with Eastern Equine Encephalitis has died. The person was an adult resident of the town of Albion. “Our thoughts are with the family at this difficult time,” said Oswego County Public Health Director Jiancheng Huang.
The volunteer stewards of Great Bear Springs Recreational Area have completed a wheelchair, handicapped accessible trail at Great Bear. Named the Apple Trail, the trail is approximately .4-mile, meandering through canopied sections of the original apple orchard.
The project will consist of removing and replacing certain utility poles on NYS Route 104 from Duer Street to West Fifth Street. The project is not expected to effect electric service. Temporary parking restrictions will be posted to accommodate the project.

Oswego Common Council President Eric VanBuren presented a proclamation at this week’s council meeting recognizing Fire Prevention Week. He encouraged all city residents to install smoke alarms in their residences, on every level including the basement. This year’s fire prevention theme, from the National Fire Protection Association – “Hear the Beep Where You Sleep” – is an effort to ensure that people have working smoke alarms installed in their bedrooms.
Oswego County Clerk Michael C. Backus today (Sept. 30), called on the New York State Department of Motor Vehicles to waive the $30 upgrade fee for customers who want to upgrade to an enhanced driver’s license in response to the REAL ID Act of 2005.

Daisy was found along with two almost newborn kittens in Pulaski by some kind-hearted kids who took them to the home of a teacher in the village. Daisy couldn’t walk and everyone assumed that she was the mom and had been hit by a car. It turns out that she wasn’t the mom.
