Runners and walkers, including suicide survivors and mental health advocates, will gather to raise awareness for Mental Health and Suicide Prevention as they participate in the Suicide Prevention “Stride to Save Lives.” The annual event is being presented by Counseling & Healing Arts of Oswego County this year. Proceeds raised will benefit SAVE – Suicide Awareness Voices of Education.

“Southeastern Lake Ontario is eligible for consideration due to the age, type and preserved state of numerous historic shipwrecks and many other features,” said Oswego County Administrator Phil Church, who acted as the emcee for the announcement. “Our goal in seeking an NMS designation is to establish international recognition for the unique features of the region and increase economic, recreational, scientific research and educational activities.”

Weather permitting, the Oswego County Health Department plans to conduct aerial spraying of approximately 10,000 acres of land in the Big Bay/Toad Harbor Swamp area in portions of the towns of Hastings, West Monroe and Constantia between 6 and 9 p.m. this evening, Sept. 4.

August 2015 was warm, but not as warm as Bill Gregway, local observer for the National Weather Service, suspected. The average temperature for last month was 69.6 degrees. That’s just 0.2-degree above average. Total precipitation for the month came in at 0.91-inch below average.
