John Spotswood celebrated his 50th birthday last month. His sister stuck three scratch-off Lottery tickets in a card and placed it in his mailbox. It wasn’t until the next day that he actually got around to scratching off the tickets. Now that the shock of winning $1 million has worn off a little – what is he going to buy special for himself? “Maybe a new pair of shoes,” he said.

The city of Oswego will once again take charge of the men’s and women’s softball leagues this summer. The council debated whether the city would make any money by providing the service. The council approved a new fee schedule with funds generated being dedicated into the Softball Accounting Reserve Fund.

The Oswego County Legislature recently proclaimed March as St. Baldrick’s Month in the county. The St. Baldrick’s Foundation works to raise awareness and funding to support childhood cancer research and fellowship. This year’s fundraiser will be held at the Lake Ontario Conference and Event Center, 26 E. First St., Oswego on March 30 from 1-5 p.m.

The previous two winters were so mild, they lulled people into thinking that was the norm, according to Bill Gregway, local observer for the National Weather Service. “The temperature is a little colder and the precip is a bit below. But over all, it is just a good average cold winter,” he said.
