The county’s Health and Highway departments used Girl Scout cookies as a substitute for medical supplies during a drill to simulate the distribution of emergency medical supplies on Wednesday. The supplies were unloaded, sorted and distributed to sites around the county.

By a vote of 16-8-1, the Oswego County Legislature approved a resolution opposing a certain portion of Gov. Andrew Cuomo’s proposed state budget. The county administrator has said the governor’s plan would result in a $16.07 rebate check for two years for county taxpayers. An alternative being suggested by NYSAC would result in a permanent $514.08 tax cut for taxpayers.
Wednesday’s event was a way to “say ‘thanks’ to all of the dedicated, hard-working individuals in our community that work together to make the 2013- 2014 United Way campaign such a success,” said Melanie Trexler, executive director. Lauren Pistell, executive director of the Shineman Foundation, winner of the 2014 Spirit of the Community Award, said “Everyone here today is here for one reason; because you see something and you do something, because you care deeply about the future of the place you call home.”
