Oswego School Board Begins Reviewing Budget Numbers
Superintendent Ben Halsey handed out “a first blush” of the school district budget for the coming academic year. “We give it to you now so that you can take it with you and take the time you need to peruse it, make notes in the margins, generate questions and have a discussion,” the superintendent told the board.

County Legislators Hear About Impact, Analysis of Governor’s Property Tax ‘Freeze’ Proposal
The Governor anticipates $2 billion will be available surplus in the state’s fiscal years 2016-17. The first $1 billion is earmarked for a two-year “property tax freeze,” accomplished by sending rebate checks to homeowners in each tax jurisdiction that complies with the two-percent real property tax cap. Many counties and the New York State Association of Counties are proposing an alternative method to provide more property tax reduction to New Yorkers.

Oswego School District To Report Track Coach Position
The board of education decided Wednesday night to repost the position of varsity boys’ track team’s head coach. During a lengthy debate, they stressed they aren’t against the veteran coach who was slotted for the job. The sticking point is the nearly $11,000 salary associated with the position.

Oswego Rotary hosted Oswego High School seniors Kerrigan Cummins, Elizabeth Baker and Tara Stacy recently. The students represent an elite group of seniors who are at the top of their class academically.
