State Police were called to the Red Cross Parking lot across from the New York State Fairgrounds shortly after 2 p.m. this afternoon (Sept. 2) for a reported animal cruelty case. When troopers arrived, they observed a male standing over a black Labrador canine who was seizing and barely breathing. Troopers attempted to cool the dog with water and ice.
Despite the humidity, August 2013 goes into the record books as cooler than normal. That’s right, cooler, according to Bill Gregway, local observer for the National Weather Service. The average temperature last month was a pleasant 68.6 degrees, but that is 0.8-degree below average. Gregway said, “Temperature wise it wasn’t a bad month. The humidity was a little tough at times.”
UPDATE 5:30 PM: Senator Charles Schumer has just informed the mayor’s office that the Port of Oswego Authority has been awarded a $1.5 million grant that will fund the construction of a significant new rail link at the Port. Senator Schumer was committed to working with the U.S. Secretary of Transportation, Anthony Foxx, to position the Oswego project for a TIGER (Transportation Investment Generating Economic Recovery) grant.
The Oswego City School District Board of Education will once again have seven active members. On September 10 Michael McLaughlin will take the oath of office to serve for the remainder of the 2013-14 school year as a member of the board of education. McLaughlin will be sworn in at the committee and regular meeting of the board at the Oswego High School Anthony J. Murabito Media Center.
On October 29, Women’s Network for Entrepreneurial Training and SUNY Oswego’s Office of Business and Community Relations will gather women from across New York State for Connections, a day-long conference to be held at River Vista Center in Fulton. The theme is “Connect – Pursue – Advance” and will feature several speakers, networking opportunities, breakfast, lunch, a dessert reception, and a women’s marketplace.
