The Youth Bureau and Springboard Mural Committee approached the city councilors Monday night with two plans to improve the quality of life in the community. One is a unique free library project. The other is a novel way to clean up the graffiti along West Linear Park, behind the YMCA.
The Oswego County Alternatives to Incarceration Advisory Board voted Monday afternoon to move ahead with approving the county’s ATI plan. Deborah Meyer, director of the county’s Probation Department, chaired the meeting.

Dozens of friends and family turn out to honor the Oswego Speedway legend. Two brand new signs, each with two different pictures of Jim Shampine’s famous race car, were unveiled at both ends of the road named in his honor. Pathfinder Bank, Romey Caruso (whose family formerly owned the Oswego Speedway for decades), the current speedway owners, the city and others all pitched in to help replace the signs, according to Mike D’Amico who spearheaded the project.

It wasn’t so much the hot humid days that pushed July’s average temperature above normal. It was the sultry nights, according to Bill Gregway, local observer for the national Weather Service. The average temperature last month was 73.0 degrees. That’s 2.2 degrees higher than average, Gregway said. One overnight low came in at 77 degrees.
