Grant for Innovative Security at Port of Oswego Aims to Prevent Attackers Coming Through Oswego from Canada

Terry Hammill, chair of the port's board of directors, present Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand with a plaque designating her as an honorary harbormaster in Oswego.An official of the Port of Oswego says, simply, that if someone wanted to sneak into America, he could take a boat from Canada and be in Oswego in 40 minutes and in New York City in a couple of days.

U.S. Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand visited the port to celebrate a grant that will create what one person calls an innovative approach to making the Port of Oswego — and the region — a little more safe.

Students To Honor Dr. Edward Austin Sheldon This School Year

Dr SheldonStudents around Oswego will pay homage this coming school year to a man whose name is synonymous with education. The 2011-2012 school year will be dedicated to Dr. Edward Austin Sheldon, according to a resolution unanimously passed Tuesday night by the Oswego Board of Education. Sheldon is the founder of the college that today is SUNY Oswego

Council Designates Farmers’ Market A ‘Tobacco-Free Zone’

Starting this week, smokers will be asked to refrain from using Tobacco products at the Oswego Farmers’ market. The Tobacco Free Network of Oswego County, with the support of the city of Oswego, the Oswego County Health Department and the Greater Oswego-Fulton Chamber of Commerce, announced the market will be a tobacco-free event starting Aug. 25.
