The following stories first appeared in 2000. We are re-running them now in response to some calls we received regarding Sgt. Shoup. He was also recognized by one of the speakers at Monday’s Memorial Day ceremonies.

Oswego veterans were joined by dozens in Veterans’ Memorial Park Monday to pay tribute to their fallen comrades. A small, poignant ceremony was held earlier at the west end of the Utica Street Bridge to honor Gold Star Mothers.

Battle of the Bulge group among largest contingent of single campaign veterans to be granted this recognition. It is also the first multi-member group to receive honor. John Canale, the group’s founder, will represent the group at a ceremony to be held in Albany on June 14, Flag Day.

Kolton James Flannery was born in Oswego Hospital on May 26, 2011.
