Second Mural Planned For West Riverwalk
The student-created mural along West Riverwalk, under the Rail Trail Bridge, is about to get some company. The Common Council is considering allowing a group of six more teen-age artists to display their work in that area. A mural committee was formed at the mayor’s request earlier this year. The intent was to engage youth (graffiti) taggers and non-taggers to beautify the city’s riverwalk areas with artwork and to discourage continued graffiti in the area
Hundreds Race To See Mario Andretti
Legendary racecar driver Mario Andretti was in the Port City today (Aug. 21) to snip the ribbon helping A&P Automotive celebrate its 25th anniversary. Andretti, who won two races more than 40 years ago at Oswego Speedway, said one thing he remembers about his first time in the Port City was how warm and friendly the people were. That, he added today, hasn’t changed.

Scene Around Town: Mario Andretti Helps A&P Automotive Celebrate 25 Years
Legendary Racecar Driver Mario Andretti was in the Port City today to snip the ribbon helping A&P Automotive celebrate its 25th anniversary. Andretti greeted fans and signed autographs for scores of racing enthusiasts at the East Bridge Street store from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m.
A&P Automotive has been in business for 25 years; most of those years, they have been associated with Firestone.
Andretti, who won two races more than 40 years ago at Oswego Speedway, said one thing he remembers about his first time in the Port City was how warm and friendly the people were. That, he added today, hasn’t changed.
