The Port of Oswego Authority is now registered for grain export, US department of agriculture federal inspection quality assurance compliance division, according to William Scriber, acting executive director of the Port of Oswego Authority. “We now can export grain at maximum quantities,” he said. That’s good news for the region’s farmers.

Voters approved the Oswego City School District’s budget for 2018-19 school year by an unofficial vote of 1,391 yes to 900 no. They also elected a newcomer, Tom Ciappa and former board president, Kathleen Allen earned the second open seat on the board of education. The top vote-getter, with an unofficial tally of 1,324, was Ciappa. He was followed by Allen with 854.

Firefighter Sean O’Gorman, who was recently cited by New York Senator Patty Ritchie for saving the lives of two distressed teen-age swimmers, received the first “Mayor’s Award” from Mayor Billy Barlow. Also recognized was Nicholas J. Little, a teacher at Fitzhugh Park Elementary School in Oswego for receiving the 2018 Empire State Excellence in Teaching Award from New York State. It was the only award in Oswego County.
Students, representing schools from all across the county, recently sat with the legislators and took an active role in the recent legislature meeting. Prior to that they visited other facets of county government and had a chance to debate and vote on their own ‘resolution.’
Residents of the Oswego City School District will go to the polls Tuesday at four polling sites.

On Thursday (May 10), at approximately 5:58 p.m., State Police in Pulaski responded to Elms Road in the town of Sandy Creek for a property damage auto accident. As a result of the investigation, Thomas Christopher, 58,, from Chipman Lane in Sandy Creek, was arrested for DWI (BAC .17%) and Leaving the Scene of a property damage accident.
