A lighthouse keeper cares for a lighthouse, which serves as an important navigation tool for people traveling via water. At Mexico Elementary School, that water is the educational path of students in grades pre-kindergarten through four. The lighthouse is the school and its keepers are the newly formed Student Lighthouse Team.
“It seems like forever since we first came up with the idea that someone might like to have it on CD.” said Michael A. Bolio, the show’s composer. “There were some ups and downs and out right roadblocks in the process, but we made it through.”
Per the decision of Oswego School Superintendent Dr. Dean Goewey, Monday, April 16, will now be a Superintendent’s Conference Day and no students should report to school. This decision provides the opportunity for OCSD students, staff and community members to attend the funeral of our lost friend and colleague, Michele Wink, he said.

Don’t spend spring break inside! Come celebrate Earth Week at the Amboy 4-H Environmental Education Center with a Geocaching Egg Hunt. On April 26, from 9:30 – 11 a.m., this family-oriented program will teach participants how to use a GPS unit and then hunt for eggs in the woods.
Librarian Barb Senecal recently presented two students from each classroom in grades kindergarten through three with the Library Technology Award for their excellent effort, attitudes and respect for others in both the library and computer lab.
The clacking of wood frogs and the clear one-note calls of spring peepers are an invitation to explore the magical woodland nurseries of spring – vernal pools. Mole salamanders and frogs emerge from winter hibernation in early spring and migrate to these critical, short-lived breeding pools.
Honored during a Morning Express program in front of their peers, teachers and guests, the award winners received both praise and thunderous applause for being proven classroom role models.
