A new group offering support for those who are experiencing grief due to the loss of someone close has begun meeting the fourth Tuesday of every month at St. Luke Health Services in Oswego. The next meeting takes place on December 26, beginning at 6:30 p.m.
Lynn Dumas, a third grade student at Sandy Creek Elementary was looking for a way to raise money, so she created what she called fidgets: flour filled balloons that students could squeeze to ease stress or anxiety and help them focus in the classroom. She created the fidgets at home and sold them to her friends and classmates, earning about $20 for her efforts. It’s what she did with the money that showed her true spirit of generosity.
In celebration of the holiday season, the residents of St. Francis Commons hosted a poinsettia fundraiser to create a “Living Poinsettia Tree” the dining room. Family members have purchased poinsettias plants as a beautiful tribute honoring loved ones.
As part of the students’ “Different Lands, Similar Stories” English language arts unit, the children worked with their families to research and then create a house from a culture other than their own.
On Saturday, the Oswego Sub Shop Peewees hosted Valley and emerged victorious with a 6-3 final score. On Sunday, they overpowered Corning, 9-1.
Mexico Elementary School third graders walked the Great Wall of China, ventured around the Democratic Republic of Congo, witnessed the beauty of the Great Barrier Reef and explored Santa’s workshop all from their library media center. The virtual field trips were made possible with Google Expeditions kits, on loan from the Center for Instruction, Technology and Innovation.
Mexico Middle School staff members and students in grades five through eight gobbled up a good time during the third annual Turkey Trot race. “We Will Rock You” played as a record 225 people marched down the hill behind the school to ready for the 1.5-mile course.
Paul V. Moore High School Student Government teamed up once again with the American Red Cross to help save hundreds of lives. Students hosted a blood drive that received the support of more than 70 teachers and students.
One of the Oswego City School District’s most anticipated holiday traditions, the Polar Express Pajama Party, celebrated its 10th anniversary last week having raised a total of more than $10,000 for the Kingsford Park Home and School Scholarship Program.
On Tuesday night, the OHS Girls Hockey team traveled to Skaneateles to take on the defending Section III and State Champion Lakers. The Bucs jumped out to a great start, scoring just 18 seconds into the contest.
