Students at the Center for Instruction, Technology and Innovation are teaming up with the city of Oswego to help tear down blighted houses within the city. The new partnership kicked off on Nov. 28 when students and staff from CiTi arrived at 154 E. Seneca St. to begin to demolish the building.
The Altmar-Parish-Williamstown Central School District Board of Education announced that it has voted to hire Eric Knuth as the new Superintendent of APW Schools. Knuth is currently the principal at Cazenovia High School. He holds a B.A. in English from Siena College, a Master’s in education from the College of St. Rose and a C.A.S. from Cortland State University.
A silent auction will be held noon until 1 p.m. on Sunday, Dec. 3, at Mount Pleasant United Methodist Church. There will be a wide variety of items for auction.
Kingsford Park Elementary School honored Oswego City Police Department Officer Thomas Grover at its recent Citizenship Awards, with the entire student body pitching in to thank him for the “opportunity to have Officer Grover be part of our lives.”
Using the Google Expedition Virtual Field Trip headset kit and administered by the CiTi technology staff, students from Mrs. Kompf’s kindergarten class were able to take a tour through a working dairy farm as part of an ongoing unit on agriculture.
Renovations and improvements are in store for the Hannibal Central School District after voters approved a $42 million capital project Wednesday (Nov. 29). In a 157-50 vote, residents elected to move forward with the project, which encompass upgrades to portions of all district buildings. The renovations will come at no cost to district taxpayers, as the project is fully funded through a combination of state aid and the district’s existing capital reserve fund.
On Wednesday night, the OHS Girls’ Hockey team traveled to Canton to take on the Bears in a non-league tilt. The Bucs opened the scoring with 11:39 left in the first when Stephanie Kubis got a nice feed from Hannah Koster that she put by Canton netminder Katie Premo (19 saves).
The Oswego Sub Shop Peewees took home the championship trophy in the TCS Winter Classic Cup held at The Buffalo Riverworks Complex this past weekend. The Oswego side made it to Sunday’s crossover game by going 1-2 in pool play. On Sunday The Sub Shop squad faced the Syracuse Blazers and defeated them 5-1 to advance to the championship contest.
An inter-generational project which brought Oswego Middle School students together with St. Francis Commons Assisted Living Residence residents for collaborative “life stories” provided each group with some new memories and new friendships along the way. After a series of interviews with a resident, students took the information they gathered back to the classroom and began to prepare stories about what they had learned.
This is the perfect night for families to enjoy an evening of fun energetic holiday music, games, crafts, light refreshments and family photos. Each family will have an opportunity to have their pictures taken and receive a 5×7 photo, that will be ready for pick up after the event.
