Developed by St. Luke Health Services, The Cornerstone Club Social Day Program in Fulton offers members a comfortable place to socialize and take part in activities with staff available to provide supervision, health and nutrition monitoring, and assistance with personal care needs, all in a safe location that is easily accessible.
Granby Elementary School sixth graders recently used their science knowledge and patience to blast model rockets into the air. The students researched Newton’s Laws of Motion, applied them to construct and launch their rockets and discussed how they could apply those laws in their everyday lives.
Oswego Middle School Principal Mary Beth Fierro was honored last week at a ceremony in Washington, D.C., for her selection to the National Distinguished Principals Class of 2017. Presented by the National Association of Elementary School Principals, Fierro was one of 50 elementary and middle school principals from across the nation recognized for setting high standards for instruction, student achievement, character, and climate for the students, families and staffs in their learning communities.
A new nutrition initiative in the Hannibal Central School District is bringing free breakfast and lunch to elementary and middle school students this year. The Community Eligibility Program, offered through the New York State Education Department, provides the meals to the students at no out-of-pocket cost.
By interviewing residents, students in the project heard about many interesting life experiences ranging from the time Helen Yonkers had dinner with Eleanor Roosevelt, wife of President Franklin D. Roosevelt, to Carl Knight’s story of a 102-year-old apple that has been in his family for generations. Diana Ostrow shared memories of her days with a Ballet company that performed at the finest theaters in London, to name a few.
Teachers and administrators welcomed students and their families at the entrance, while the Hannibal Home and School organization, donned in their warrior attire, greeted attendees.
Through METS, an alternative education component of the Center for Instruction, Technology and Innovation, students in grades seven through 12 whose parents have had to move around mostly for farm work were able to explore educational opportunities beyond high school and shared their career aspirations.
Teachers Becky Craig and Mary Throne collaborated with an art classroom at Westfield High School in Houston to distribute both hygiene and cleaning supplies to homeowners that were left to pick up the pieces after the hurricane destroyed homes and much of their contents.
Students at the Center for Instruction, Technology and Innovation recently learned all about defensive areas, wing areas, cross-checks and goals when they attended the Lax All-Stars North American Invitational Box Lacrosse tournament.
Several Fairgrieve Elementary School students were recently honored for exceeding expectations in the school cafeteria throughout the month of October. Recipients of the monthly Golden Spoon honors were recognized during a Morning Express program, where they received applause, cheers and congratulatory messages from Principal Jean Sampsell, guests, classmates and teachers.
