An over-the-top comedic murder-mystery is set to soon bring laughs – and clues – to Mexico High School. “The Bold, The Young and The Murdered” will be presented at 7 p.m. on Nov. 3 and Nov. 4 in the school’s auditorium after several weeks of student preparation.
Palermo Elementary is turning the page when it comes to encouraging and promoting family literacy. As a continuation to the school’s year-long reading initiative, the Parent-Teacher Club recently hosted its annual Snuggle up with a Good Book event, which drew about 40 people to the school cafeteria.

In honor of National Fire Prevention Week, a handful of volunteer firefighters educated students from grades pre-kindergarten through six on the following basic measures: never hide during a fire because firefighters need to see where people are, if trapped in a room stay near the door or a window, never go back inside for an animal or toy, smoke detectors should be placed high and people should go low while exiting to a safe meeting place.
The Fulton Junior High School students broadened their opportunities to do a different activity, thanks to Physical Education teacher Scott Blackburn who brought the three-week session back to the building within the past year.
Patrol advisor and Special Education teacher Anne Roberts said each member is stationed throughout various spots in the building that Principal Jean Sampsell has deemed a necessary zone where students may need reminders on hallway expectations.
From lessons in school to watching people donate blood, Volney Elementary School first graders could tell anyone all about the human body. As part of the first grade Listening and Learning unit about the body systems, the youngsters studied how the body’s components work together.
Tara Searor is a 2017 LeadingAge New York Long Term Care Employee of Distinction Award recipient. Searor, who has been a Certified Nursing Assistant at St. Luke Health Services in Oswego for 11 years, received the award from James Clyne, CEO of LeadingAge NY, during a reception held at St. Luke in her honor. The Employee of Distinction Award acknowledges the extraordinary efforts of front line staff working in long-term care settings like St. Luke Health Services, all across New York State.
Students introduced their parents to teachers and administrators while touring the building. Informational sessions were held in classrooms to review expectations, provide resources and answer any questions that were asked.
