Students at several elementary schools have been collecting items in an effort to aid those affected by severe weather in recent weeks, stockpiling non-perishable food, personal hygiene items and bottled water for delivery to people in need.
“This forum is a great opportunity to learn about youth programming in Oswego County and for the public to gather information on what’s happening,” said Brian Chetney, executive director of the Oswego City-County Youth Bureau.
Mexico Middle School seventh graders have taken real-world problems and used their ingenuity, determination and teamwork to create solutions. That occurred in the students’ technology class with teacher David Wilcox, who presented the students with a foot orthosis instant design challenge.
The Amboy 4-H Environmental Education Center will present a public program on trees. Tales of the Trees will be held on October 29 at 2 p.m. Participants will enjoy a walk through the woodlands with naturalist Pat Carney, to delight in the colors and beauty of the forest trees dressed in their autumn finery.
Students got the project started recently by interviewing residents at St. Francis Commons as part of a multi-semester class project that focuses on the development and implementation of evidence-based health promotion programs designed specifically for older adults.
