Career and Technical Education students from the Center for Instruction, Technology and Innovation tested their knowledge and skill sets at the New York State SkillsUSA Conference. Four students returned with medals and will proceed to the national conference in June.

Student leaders are emerging in the Phoenix Central School District and they recently had a chance to collaborate with their peers during a conference. Held in Central Square, the 15th annual Student Leadership Conference provided an opportunity for student leaders from across Oswego County to unite and share ideas.

Sponsored by Fulton Community School, the event will be held from 4-6 p.m. May 14 at the Fulton Junior High School. Attendees will have the chance to talk to a variety of local businesses and organizations that will share their experiences and highlight the soft and hard skills required to succeed in their line of work.

Hannibal High School’s drama club, Purple Gallery, performed a stunning performance of “Cooking Can Be Murder” by Eddie McPherson.

Volunteerism and community spirit resonated throughout the Phoenix Veterans of Foreign Wars hall recently as 18 John C. Birdlebough High School students earned President’s Youth Service Awards. The annual awards ceremony recognized Phoenix students who have gone above and beyond to serve their community.

With nearly four hundred people attending last year’s event, the raffle party has become an afternoon of fun, especially if you are a winner of one of the many fabulous door prizes, or if you are among the 15 lucky prize winners in the “Bundle of Bucks” raffle cash drawing.

Children K-6 recently received an educational presentation and materials from representative Rob Wasiel about the importance of giving blood. The American Red Cross Pint-Size Hero Program offers an opportunity for elementary students to participate in hosting a Red Cross blood drive at their school.

The Academic Excellence Scholarships are awarded to 8,000 New York state students annually, with up to 2,000 awards of $1,500 per year and 6,000 awards of $500 per year.

In collaboration with Earth Day, the Phoenix varsity girls’ softball team joined forces with the Phoenix National Honor Society to help clean up the community. On April 26, participants were given a designated map of an area of the village and were responsible for cleaning that area.
