On November 1, the AO of Hibernians in Oswego will host the Paws-of-Plenty Harvest Dinner. The dinner will begin at 1 p.m. and will end when all dinners are sold. In addition to dinner, items from Oswego local businesses will be raffled off and there will be baked goods for sale at the desert table. Tickets are $10 for a turkey or ham dinner either dine-in or carry-out on the day of the event.
The annual turkey supper and bazaar will be Saturday at Mount Pleasant United Methodist Church.
Serving will be 4 to 7 p.m. The supper will be turkey and all the fixins’.
Granby Elementary School sixth graders began the school year as students and transformed into rocket scientists during the first month of class. According to sixth grade teacher Joe McNamara, the unit about rocketry and Newton’s Laws of Motion serves as a great “launching pad” for the entire school year. “As fifth graders last year, many of these students watched the older kids launch rockets,” McNamara said. “They’ve been looking forward to this since Day 1.”
The Pulaski Middle School drama department will present “Gumshoe High A Totally Teen Mystery” on October 24 and 25 beginning at 7 p.m. both days. The show will be held in the high school auditorium. Reminiscent of a dime store novel come to life, the mystery goes through several twists and turns as Drexton Cage, a high school detective, investigates what seems like a simple frame-job, that upon further investigation becomes entangled with intrigue.
For Spirit Day, each grade of students was split into teams based on colors, with an objective of showcasing school spirit in a respectful and responsible way. Students wore bracelets, hats, beads and shirts in their color to show support for their team
G. Ray Bodley High School Principal Donna Parkhurst announced that MaKenna Cealie has been named a Commended Student in the 2015 National Merit Scholarship Program. A Letter of Commendation from the school and National Merit Scholarship Corporation, which conducts the program, was presented by Parkhurst to the scholastically talented student at the school.
In order to maintain a safe environment while addressing some concerns of the city of Oswego and its residents, Brookfield Renewable will be performing modifications and upgrades to the Fisherman Alert System at the Varick Hydro Facility. They will be testing and implementing these changes over the next few days. These changes will reduce the impact of the alarm on the surrounding community, while continuing to promote the safety of fishermen in the area.
Phoenix Central School District’s junior class will hold a craft show from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Oct. 11 at John C. Birdlebough High School. More than 50 vendors will set up shop at the event.
The yearly Altmar-Parish-Williamstown Junior/Senior High School open house is an opportunity for parents to meet teachers and be invested in their children’s lives. Students smiled in gratification as parents shook the hands of newly introduced teachers.
Lanigan Elementary students launched their homemade rockets near the playground behind the school on a beautiful fall Friday. A few students started to sing “The Final Countdown” by the Swedish band Europe as they waited in line, laughing all the while.
